I started the evening at a media happy hour at Asador restaurant, inside the Renaissance Hotel. Noshes and drinks flowed freely, with standouts being my assertive blood orange mojito (below), a lovely grilled quail with BBQ sauce I couldn’t stop eating, cassava “fries,” yummy lamb sliders, and a lamb pasta dish that was heavenly. But I had to leave after not too long to pick up my “date” for the rest of the evening, local designer and textile artist Elizabeth Anyaa. I wore one of her splendid pieces for the rest of the evening! Yes, I felt fancy …
You know I love a good art gallery party, and this one was lively, with cocktails and snackies amid lovely art by Michael Kalish and JD Miller among other luminaries. After rubbing some elbows with several others planning on hitting the Pin Show, it was time to hit the fashion showcase at the Fairmont Hotel!
Seated in the front row, Elizabeth and I were close enough to the fashions coming down the runway to see the glitter on a belt or the jewel studs on a high-heeled show. Ahhh!
I have to say that after years of attending The Pin Show, including at Union Station, this year’s event was thus far the best! The designs were of a refinement and quality level befitting a great fashion city like Dallas — we’ve got an immense about of talent here, and this was a tremendous showcase of it. Check out my gallery of standouts at the end of this post — and this total gratuitous dude-in-underwear pic, skivvies provided by marek+richard underwear co.
After the show, we headed to a little studio on the bottom floor of the hotel, where Fairmont Artist-in-Residence and Pin Show designer Isabel Varela works on the modern garments for her line, Izavel. There, she hosted a celebratory after-party with champagne and desserts. Other designers I greeted and raised glasses with there were fellow Pin Show-ers Sarah Jones of STATUS and Ashley Brooks, Isabel’s former design mate. Such a wonderful way to close out a fun and fashionable evening!
