Deep relaxation — who has time for it? Between deadlines at work, a social life and binge-watching Netflix, when are we supposed to find time to truly relax? And when you do find time for this elusive relaxation, how will you ever afford the best spas in town without stressing out over the bill? With Spa Week, that’s how! And now you can enjoy Spa Week’s Fall Event from Oct. 17-23.
For over a decade during this biannual event, participating spas have been offering treatments at a HUGE discount: $50 will get you massages, facials or laser hair removal treatments at some of the best-known facilities in DFW. There’s no limit to the number of spas you can visit, so take full advantage of this week.
While some may think that visiting a spa is something only ladies and guys with office hands do, the fact of the matter is, anyone can appreciate being pampered for an hour, and if you’re gonna be pampered, you might as well do it at one of the best places in town like I did during my visit to Grand Spa in Addison.
Grand Spa is an enormous facility with a plethora of treatment packages and services. Upon entering, I was greeted by smiling staff who were very helpful and knowledgeable. The lobby was lined with shelves of all the name-brand products you need to keep your skin soft and young. There’s also an area for makeup lessons. Through Door No. 1 was the salon area where you can have any number of hairstyles professionally supplied by one of the stylists.
Through another set of doors, I was escorted down a hall and into the men’s locker room, where there were a few lockers, a sauna and two showers stocked with body wash and shampoo. Trading my work clothes for a plush white robe, I slipped on some comfy sandals as I made my way to the men’s lounge where I sat on a leather chair and watched SportsCenter while sipping on cucumber-infused water. So far, I was impressed.
In my large, dimly lit massage room, you have the option of having the table heated or not – I opted for no heat. In another minute, I snuggled in under the sheets and relaxed. Fifty minutes later, I reached Zentopia.
When it was done, I felt refreshed but also a little confused: I forgot I had a demanding job, bills to pay or real-world problems. I even forgot what I had planned on doing after the spa visit. I sort of floated to the locker room, showered, got dressed and walked out of the spa and into my car. I didn’t want to start my car for fear of not being able drive with this body high. I felt light as a cloud and as carefree as a dog with its head out the window. When I got moving, reality started setting in and all of sudden I remembered all the things that needed to be done. All the deadlines that needed to be met (including this one). All the bills to look forward to.
While my zen moment was short-lived, it was totally worth it. If I could afford it (and if Spa Week suddenly became Spa Year), I would make it a weekly ritual. Fortunately for you and me, Spa Week is here, so let’s jump on it before it’s gone and we’re stuck trying to re-create Zentopia at home. Because, let’s face it — it’ll only make you more stressed out!
