My DIY creation — vote for me!

So just this week I finished my nifty little DIY project for the Great Big Texas Home Show‘s Ultimate Upcycle, and I flove it!! I took a humble, dated night table and turned it into a supremely fabulous Nightstand and Pet Lounge! Check out the stunning transformation …

I’m amazed at what a little paint, paper and fabric can do to a piece of furniture, and I have to say I’m HOOKED! Now I want to hit every thrift store in town and DIY the heck out of everything! Naila Malik party … and a giveaway!

This week, I was invited to breeze through the handsome new Dallas office of Naila Malik M.D., a physician who’s turned her passion for health into a focus on skin- and weight-care products. Amid eating the Mediterranean eats from Fadi’s and sips of wine, I learned about Dr. Malik’s lines: Naila Derm MD takes a non-invasive approach to maintaining or uncovering skin’s youthful glow; Naila Fit MD is a personalized weight-loss program that begins with the client’s health history; and Naila Clear MD‘s aim is the long-term control of acne in teens and adults. What all three lines have in common is Dr. Malik’s individualized service — it’s all about listening to each client and crafting a custom approach to skin or weight care.

I chatted with Dr. Malik at the party, and I really felt her passion for her work and her desire to help men and women achieve their skin and/or weight goals. In addition to the aforementioned products, she and her staff perform common in-office treatments such as microdermabrasion, skin photorejuvenation and chemical peels.

A highlight of the bash was getting to walk off with a swag bag full of more than $200 worth of goodies … and it can all be yours. Yeah!

Diva Drives: 2013 Chevrolet Camaro

Chickadees, I just spent a week in sports car heaven! Your Diva redeemed a nearly expired swag-bag voucher and scored free usage of the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS Coupe for a week! Feast your eyes on the delicious vehicle above; I rolled around in an Inferno Orange model, and it was sweet! Talk about a head-turner — a girl could get used to this …

My favorite quality about the Camaro? Its get-up-and-go when I hit the pedal was incredible, and I was passing slow-pokes in the fast lane like a pro. Thank you, V8 engine! I was spoiled, too, by the XM Radio service that kept a variety of hot tunes pulsating through the Boston speakers all week. Other bells and whistles I loved include the power seat adjusters (hey, I gotta crank everything by hand in my own car!); heated front seats; how the current speed was transmitted, hologram-like, at eye-level in front of the driver; and the rearview camera that made moving in reverse a breeze.

So the car’s not the most fuel-efficient, but you knew that, right? Still, the Camaro was delivered to me with a full tank, and I didn’t need to fill it up, having used it fairly regularly for six days (fuel economy is 18 mpg).

The car’s a lot roomier than one would expect. As a Real-World Diva experiment, I drove my sister, her hubby and their 4-year-old to the airport one morning. As you can see above, the Camaro has a real back seat. Baby Diva’s full-size car seat fit fine, as did my sister. Surprisingly, the trunk had space enough for the luggage of two adults and a kid going away for five days!

Overall, I loved, loved, loved the Camaro 2SS Coupe, and when the dude who came to pick it back up jokingly asked if I wanted to keep it another couple weeks, I nearly ran off with the key!
