An occasional look at photos of my favorite eats in Dallas restaurants.

Shrimp and Spanish potato omelet at Si Tapas
I am late in getting there, but I finally dined at Si Tapas last week. After enduring hit-and-miss small plates at other area Spanish eateries, I found Si to be a refreshing improvement. The shrimp were succulent with just the right bit of garlic, though for aesthetics’ sake I wish they’d’ve been deveined. Small quibble. Especially once I knifed into the potato tortilla. It was the first I’d had in too long where the flavor of caramelized onion shined through. What a treat. I sipped on the house red and sopped up every sauce with crusty bread, like a true foodie.
Roasted red pepper bisque at the Hotel St. Germain
About a month back, I attended a special dinner at this Uptown hotel that celebrated its inclusion in a cookbook featuring recipes from Relais & Chateaux destinations. In case you didn’t know, Relais & Chateaux is like an exclusive fraternity of the world’s absolute finest hotels and resorts, and the St. Germain is one of only two hotels in Texas to be invited into the group. Can’t for the life of me remember which hotel this velvety veggie bisque came from, but if it’s good enough to be served at the St. Germain (and in those luxurious serving bowls), then it’s good enough to be featured here. The soup went down like butter, with a little peppery kick at the end of each sip. Dah-licious.
