The Dallas Flea returns

The very popular Dallas Flea is back this Saturday for another go-round at South Side on Lamar. From 9 a.m. to 4, you can discover homegrown wares from mostly local artisans and sellers; nosh on eats from food trucks; and soak in the vibe generated from a live music set.

Notable this session is the Flea’s biggest group yet of mobile vendors, including The Urban Cottage–rehabbed furniture sold from an Airstream.

Entry to the Flea costs just $5, and kids 12 and younger get in free. There’s plenty of free parking to be had nearby, too. So just add this to your calendar, already!

5 things I learned at Fashion’s Night Out

As I’m recovering from the whirlwind that was last night’s Fashion’s Night Out, I wanted to share a mini list of observations gleaned during the evening. Let’s do this …

1. The strength of a party’s alcohol is directly proportional to its exclusivity: At least two store parties I hit that promised cocktails were actually serving wine or bubbly. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But the stronger, more fruity stuff was flowin like a river at Neiman Marcus’ Simply Summer post-runway show fete. And I was a fish …

2. These heels aren’t made for walking: The cute ones never are!!

3. Uber Dallas rocks!: I was a so-called Secret Uber, using the car service while it’s still in beta mode, and it was awesome! Rollin’ right up to Northpark’s door in a black Suburban sure beat parking my tan sedan 3 acres away and walking through 105-degree heat.

4. I now know why I’d never heard of the boutique called Gregory’s at Northpark: The do-not-touch sign nestled among high-dollar heels and handbags said it all.

5. Afterparties are where memories start to fade: Because the effects of the evening’s drinks collectively start to set slap you upside the head. Until your head clears the next day and you remember how fabulous the night was!

FNO Countdown: My Galleria getup

If you see me out and about tonight, taking Fashion’s Night Out by storm, know this: Galleria Dallas hooked your Diva UP! Macy’s provided my fabulous one-shouldered dress and my gleaming Michael Kors clutch; Papyrus (yes, girl!) and Apricot Lane came through with stunning jewelry looks, and Toni & Guy has me down for a 4 o’clock for makeup and refreshments. A million thanks to the Galleria Dallas team, especially stylist Holly Quartaro, for coming through. Oh, and how could I forget? I’m hosting the mall’s official after-party at Townhouse Kitchen + Bar, with proceeds from signature cocktails going to the North Texas Food Bank. The fun kicks off at 9 p.m., and I hope to see you there!

FNO Countdown: Lush for life

So part of doing Fashion’s Night Out like a Diva is smelling the past. To that end, LUSH Cosmetics has hooked me up with Cocktail, an intoxicating fragrance to spritz on before I take on the parties and fashion shows.

Cocktail, according to LUSH, is its “homage to traditional French 1930s perfumeries.” It’s brimming with scents of ylang ylang, rose, jasmine, sandalwood and orange blossom yet doesn’t strike the nose as overly floral. And its cute, compact size make it the perfect fit for the clutch I’ll be rocking this evening … unlike the actual cocktail I’d like to wedge in there.

My precious FNO prize package will include your very own bottle of Cocktail. Find out tomorrow how to win it!

The late, late show after FNO

If you’re still standing after hours of fashion gawking and people watching, and especially if you want more, get yourself to the hottest late show going: THE Afterparty, in the House of Blues’ Foundation Room, brought to you by Fashion Fridays.

More than a hotspot for drinks and light bites, the party keeps the couture of the evening coming, with looks by Edgar Gomez, by Yasmina Johnston, and Emmanuel Tobias on full display as music pulsates from DJ Chocolate Groove. Tickets can be obtained by going here and clicking “Tickets.”

So get ready to raise a glass (filled with a themed cocktail by Deep Eddy Vodka) and toast the sunset of Fashion’s Night Out with THE Afterparty … as with my moniker, don’t forget the “The”! ;-)

THIS JUST IN: Fashion Fridays, on its Facebook page, says, “If you RSVP on Facebook or present a flyer at the door you are able to get in for $35! Can’t wait to see everyone there!” So “Like” the group and RSVP through FB, chickadees!

Olivia k trunk show at Factory Girl

Here’s a fun upcoming event for you accessory fiends — Dallas jewelry designer Ariel Saldivar will share the Fall 2012 collection of her line Olivia k at upscale vintage apparel shop Factory Girl. This Saturday at the Deep Ellum store, you can sip cocktails while perusing some of Olivia k’s signatures: stones adorned with recycled gold and silver, and raw materials showcased in modern forms. New to the mix at this, the brand’s very first trunk show, will be old-but-new-fashioned faceted glass lockets (top) and rustic rings made of buffalo horn (below).

Saldivar (right), also an art dealer and musician who’s toured with the indie-rock likes of Polyphonic Spree and Broken Social Scene, says she enjoys keeping as much of a natural look and feel to her stone-centered pieces as possible, which you can see in some of her breathtaking agate earrings and pendants — check them out at the Olivia k site. And raise a cocktail to her at the trunk show! It runs from 1 to 6 p.m. at Factory Girl, 2923 Canton St., and will feature complimentary drinks and valet.

FNO Countdown: End o’summer sip

Fashion’s Night Out and New York Fashion Week, as you know, serve as the spiritual bridge between summer style and autumn trends. And as summer fades into fall, it’s a terrific occasion to reflect on the season just passed, by … sipping on some elegant summer cocktails, of course! I say twist open the Belvedere — really. The vodka label treated me with a bottle of their latest flavor, Lemon Tea, infused with citrus and tea flavors. Especially served over lemonade — you wouldn’t believe it, but the tea cuts through the lemon-on-lemon for an altogether refreshing beverage that tastes like summer. Which is why I’ll be sipping Belvedere Lemon Tea cocktails whilst I prep for Fashion’s Night Out later (DISCLAIMER: I’ll be doing this because I shan’t be driving tonight. Nay, my chariot will arrive at my door, compliments of Uber, a lovely car service and smartphone app that is just launching in Dallas. Thanks for the lift, guys!).

Here, a recipe for you to concoct your own palate-pleasing cocktail as the summer heat wanes … OK, that’s not happening till around Halloween, but go with me on this. Anyway, this makes a pitcher full of yum; whether you want to share any of it is totally up to you.

Belvedere Green Goddess Pitcher

5 oz Belvedere Lemon Tea
10 oz Green tea
3 oz Lemon juice
3 oz Simple syrup
1 bunch of mint
Add all ingredients to a pitcher and stir. Garnish with blueberries, cucumber and slices of

Hmmm, on second glance at those measurements, this doesn’t sound like it makes a pitcher, so party on, savoring one glass at a time. Cheers!
